I never really thought of making a T-shirt… How is that? Well, my thought process was always: I can create a couture outfit, for less than I can buy it in store, but as for T-shirts, is it really worth the hassle? Not sure if it is or not, but I happened to like these two fabrics together and I could not think of a better apparel piece than a nice summer shirt made out of it!
Kicking off MeMadeMay’16!
Well, this month is promising to be interesting – I have barely any clothing left in my wardrobe that I did not make myself (couple of cardigans, a pair of jeans and some fall/winter jackets). Everything else is made with my two hands 🙂 I am super excited to share my MeMadeMay’16 journey, so tag along on Instagram, Pinterest and Bloglovin. See ya there!
Pattern: I did not use any pattern this time, instead I used already existing T -shirt that I got as a gift from my mom. I folded it in half, placed it on fabric and cut with 1 inch seam allowance. It was pretty straight forward, since this t-shirt only had 2 pattern pieces: front and back. I must say, I am not a fan of “free-handing” but once you gain certain confidence in your sewing skills – it can be interesting!
Fabric: first of all, this T -shirt is made out of 2 fabrics layered one on top of another. First fabric is peach stripped jersey and second is white petal pattern jersey. I just happened to brain over fabric combinations and loved the result. It might seem a little odd at first, but I LOVE everything unique! As always – I happened to find this fabric at Wal-Mart for $1.5 per yard… so this t-shirt probably cost me to make about $2.
Skills: intermediate. You have to be comfortable to sew without a pattern and with knit jersey.
Remarks: I really enjoyed making this T -shirt and after wondered why I haven’t made one sooner. Layering 4 fabrics was complicated at times, but all in all I love the final product. These fabrics have a very soft hand, which super nice on skin. I will be making more!
Accessories: I had this cute necklace, that was Christmas gift from one of my co-workers – it fit right into the color combination. Love the way it looks!
