Pretty cosmetic bags – free Burda Style tutorial

Hello, hello wonderful!

How is that fabric stash going? Any progress on your scrap fabric bin?

Today I am sharing my latest obsession ( I have made 4 of these in 1 day) to reduce your stash and put those precious pretty remnants in wonderful use, and to make pretty Valentine’s day or Mothers day gifts! The step by step tutorial is from the Russian Burda Styel website, and although it is all in Russian it has step by step photo instructions and everything is very self explanatory.

FABRIC: satin, denim and colorful polyester

NOTIONS: exposed zipper

There are two ways to make these, first one is the full cosmetics bag and the second one is flat. I have made two of each, and it is hard for me to decide which one I like better. Flat ones is easier and faster to make, but they are not yielding as much as the full ones. I don’t like carrying a lot in my cosmetic bag to begin with: a lip balm, mascara, blush and a hand cream will do.  They are also great for storing pencils and writing tools as well as jewelry for traveling.

I made some of these for gifts and used a “Uniquely Handmade” ink stamp that I got at Hobby Lobby to make personalized gift labels. I think that adding labels to your handmade gifts looks thoughtful and more professional.

So, enjoy making your own cosmetic bags!
